Tangle Lakes, Tangle River
Tangle Lakes Tangle River is located on the Denali Highway, not to be confused with the Denali Park Road. The Denali Highway is not in the park and in fact starts about 127 miles east of the park and terminates about 25 miles south of the park entrance. In the 1950s and 60s it was the only road that went to the park.
The Denali Highway is a beautiful scenic drive through tundra and taiga forest. It roughly parallels the Alaska Range with spectacular vistas of mountains, glaciers, rivers and the endless expanse of wide open tundra. Even without the world class grayling and lake trout fishing it it is worth the visit.
The fishing is world class. The grayling are often in the 18 inch range and huge lakers abound in the lakes. The dry fly fishing for grayling in the interconnected lakes and rivers is great. If one spends a bit of time getting away from the road in a boat or canoe 100 fish days are not hard to come by.
